About

Built from personal experience.

WellPlated started with a moment that changed how we think about food — and why clarity matters more than calorie counters.

Our story

WellPlated was created after my wife needed emergency heart bypass surgery at the age of 43. It wasn't a lifestyle choice that led there — it was a genetic condition, something she had no way to predict or prevent. But it changed everything about how we thought about food.

After surgery, the question of what to eat became much more serious — and much more confusing. Every trip to the supermarket involved trying to make sense of nutrition labels, conflicting advice and a growing anxiety about whether any given food was actually a good choice.

What struck me most was how difficult it was to get a clear, honest picture of what a meal actually contained — not just the calorie count, but what those calories were made of, how the meal balanced out, and what a better alternative might look like. Existing apps were either too clinical, too obsessive or too simplistic.

I built WellPlated to solve that problem — not just for us, but for anyone who wants to understand what they eat without being made to feel guilty or overwhelmed. The app uses AI to make food scanning simple, the WellPlated Index to give meals context, and personalisation to make sure the insights are relevant to your life, not a generic health template.

WellPlated is not a medical app. It doesn't diagnose conditions, treat illness or replace professional advice. It is simply a tool to help you understand your food better — clearly, personally and without judgement.

What we believe

Clarity over complexity

Nutrition information should be clear and readable, not a wall of numbers that requires a science degree to interpret.

Personalisation matters

Everyone has different goals, preferences and needs. Food tracking that ignores this will always feel generic.

No judgement

People eat the way they eat for many reasons. WellPlated is here to inform, not to shame or pressure.

Honest about limitations

WellPlated provides estimates and general guidance. It is not medical advice, and we will never pretend otherwise.
