Why calories are only part of the picture
Calories measure energy. They say nothing about where that energy comes from or whether the rest of the meal is balanced.
Two meals, same calories
Consider two 500-calorie meals: a grilled salmon fillet with roasted vegetables, and a large portion of chips with a sugary sauce. The calorie count is identical, but the meals are nutritionally very different.
Protein, fibre and satiety
Protein and fibre both contribute to how full you feel after eating. A calorie-equivalent meal low in both can leave you hungry again quickly. Calorie-only tracking misses this entirely.
How WellPlated approaches this
WellPlated shows you calories, but also protein, carbohydrates, fat, fibre, sugar, salt and saturated fat — along with the WellPlated Index, which takes all of these into account.
